Asymptotic analysis of a fast algorithm for efficient multiple frequency estimation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Based on an asymptotic analysis of the contraction mapping (CM) method of Li and Kedem (IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory, vol. 39, pp. 989–998, 1993), a bandwidth shrinkage rule is proposed for fast and accurate estimation of the frequencies of multiple sinusoids from noisy measurements. The CM frequency estimates are defined as the fixed-points of a contractive mapping formed by the lag-one autocorrelation coefficient calculated from the output of a parametric filter applied to the observed time series. With judiciously chosen bandwidth parameters according to the asymptotic analysis, the algorithm is shown to be able to accommodate possibly poor initial values of precision O(n−1/3) and converge to a final estimate whose accuracy is arbitrarily close to O(n−3/2), the optimal error rate for frequency estimation under the Gaussian assumption. The total computational complexity of the algorithm is shown to be O(n logn), which is comparable to that of n-point FFT. A novelty in the asymptotic analysis is that it accommodates closely-spaced frequencies by allowing not only the filter bandwidth but also the frequency separation to be functions of the sample size n. This enables an assessment of the accuracy of the frequency estimates for given bandwidths and initial values in situations where some or all of the frequencies are close to each other.

متن کاملCalculation of One-dimensional Forward Modelling of Helicopter-borne Electromagnetic Data and a Sensitivity Matrix Using Fast Hankel Transforms
The helicopter-borne electromagnetic (HEM) frequency-domain exploration method is an airborne electromagnetic (AEM) technique that is widely used for vast and rough areas for resistivity imaging. The vast amount of digitized data flowing from the HEM method requires an efficient and accurate inversion algorithm. Generally, the inverse modelling of HEM data in the first step requires a precise a...
متن کاملAsymptotic algorithm for computing the sample variance of interval data
The problem of the sample variance computation for epistemic inter-val-valued data is, in general, NP-hard. Therefore, known efficient algorithms for computing variance require strong restrictions on admissible intervals like the no-subset property or heavy limitations on the number of possible intersections between intervals. A new asymptotic algorithm for computing the upper bound of the samp...
متن کاملHarmonics Estimation in Power Systems using a Fast Hybrid Algorithm
In this paper a novel hybrid algorithm for harmonics estimation in power systems is proposed. The estimation of the harmonic components is a nonlinear problem due to the nonlinearity of phase of sinusoids in distorted waveforms. Most researchers implemented nonlinear methods to extract the harmonic parameters. However, nonlinear methods for amplitude estimation increase time of convergence. Hen...
متن کاملA Fast and Efficient On-Line Harmonics Elimination Pulse Width Modulation for Voltage Source Inverter Using Polynomials Curve Fittings
The paper proposes an algorithm to calculate the switching angles using harmonic elimination PWM (HEPWM) scheme for voltage source inverter. The algorithm is based on curve fittings of a certain polynomials functions. The resulting equations require only the addition and multiplication processes; therefore, it can be implemented efficiently on a microprocessor. An extensive angle error analysis...
